One sunny Saturday, a few months ago, I popped to a matinee at the Royal Opera House – I think it was to see Swan Lake for what I’m sure was the millionth time. As I walked into Covent Garden square I spotted a couple of classic cars parked and when I turned round I realised there was actually a whole display of Aston Martins ranging from early classics to newer models.
The colours of the earlier cars were so beautiful – muted pastels with a dull metallic edge:
I posted the picture on Instagram and Joy of The Knitting Goddess got in touch and asked if she could use the image as inspiration for a colourway of her hand-dyed mini skein sets, and here are the results; ‘Shades of Aston Martin’…
Aren’t they gorgeous! Even Mr K gave a nod and smile of approval as I told him the story!
It was so exciting to see someone creative immediately taking inspiration from an image I had stumbled across, and now it’s your turn…
Joy and I are launching a competition to find an image that will inspire a new mini-skein set and we would love to see your photographs. It’s easy to enter; simply take an original photograph, snapped by yourself, that has the potential to be transformed into a Knitting Goddess mini-skein set, hand-dyed by Joy. It can be ideas for a gradient, or simply a beautiful image with several colours that work well together, as seen in the Aston Martin set. Post your photograph (just one entry per person please) to either Twitter or Instagram including the hashtag #miniskeincomp so we can find your entry, or alternatively you can add it to the competition thread on Ravelry.
The closing date for entries is midnight on Friday 17th July 2015. Me and Joy will pick a shortlist and post the finalists in The Knitting Goddess group on Ravelry. You will then have until midnight on Sunday 26th July to vote for your favourite, with the winner being announced on Monday 27th July. Joy will then set to work transforming the winning image into a set of 7 mini-skeins on her 75% British wool, 25% nylon base which is custom spun for The Knitting Goddess in Yorkshire.
The winner will receive a set of their winning colourway mini-skeins, plus a 100g solid skein and a pattern of your choosing from my pattern portfolio.
Important Housekeeping: Only one entry per person please, so pick your photograph wisely! Please note that by entering the competition you are agreeing that your photograph can be used for promotion on various social media platforms and on My life in Knitwear and The Knitting Goddess websites. You will retain all copyright to your image. No alternative prize is available. I have received no payment, monetary or otherwise, for my part in this competition.
Good luck everyone – we really can’t wait to see what you come up with!
