The second of my CoopKnits posts is all about the new Spring 2015 issue of the wonderful Sockupied eMag from Interweave. Rachel is the featured designer for the ‘Eye on Design’ section, and alongside her new sock pattern, Laith, there is a peek inside the quirky world of CoopKnits written by myself.
Laith is something of a new direction for Rachel but retains all the hallmarks of a CoopKnits classic – travelling stitches and fraternal patterning in a thoroughly sharp and modern, unisex design.
I featured Sockupied on the blog last year, having been sent a review copy, and it triumphed in getting me to overcome my misgivings about eMags – and honestly, I’m not just saying that! There are so many dedicated sock knitters out there and it’s really great to have a dedicated publication. Sockupied pushes the sock knitting boundaries by offering sock patterns which are a little more challenging or slightly different in terms of construction, plus there are always excellent tips, tricks and tutorials to help you develop your sock knitting skills.
Alongside Rachel’s design you will find patterns from Kate Atherley, M. K. Nance, Mone Dräger and Jennifer Crowley Raymond plus a great feature on knitting a cracking pair of knee-highs!
The Spring issue sees Amy Palmer (editor of Knitscene) taking over the reins and I know she has some really great plans for the future of Sockupied, including the big change this issue which has taken Sockupied from being a platform magazine to a downloadable PDF, making it accessible to a whole new audience.
So, would you like the chance to read Sockupied for yourself? I have a copy to giveaway to one of my lovely readers. All you need to do is reply to this post telling me your favourite sock – it could be toe-up, top down, ankle length, knee high, afterthought heel, flap and gusset (still makes me giggle), whatever it is, leave me a comment by midnight GMT on Sunday 15th March. Mr K will draw a winner at random from his favourite sock, which are his red and white striped ‘Where’s Wally’ pair. I will announce the winner for this and all the other giveaways from the past few weeks next Monday the 16th March. Good luck!
A BIG thank you to Rachel Coopey for asking me to write on her behalf, and to the lovely Amy Palmer for publishing my little article – celebratory cake has been consumed!
