The lovely Yarn in the City gals are back with a third instalment of their annual charity event, The Great London Yarn Crawl!
I had a fab day last year – you can read all about it here – and I will be popping along again this September 5th to join in the fun. 2015 is their biggest event to date and is shaping up to look like a right grand day out!
All 12 Yarn Crawl routes will start from Chelsea Old Town Hall with a ‘Kick Off Party’ sponsored by Loop, and an exclusive preview of the pop-up marketplace which is packed with independent vendors. Yarn Crawlers will then head off in various directions around to potter around several of the Capital’s yarn stores, then if you like you can head back to the Old Town Hall for final goodbyes until next year. If you prefer to only visit the marketplace, tickets will be available for entry after the Yarn Crawl preview.
Two further additions to the 2015 event include workshops by Kate Atherley who is flying in from Canada to teach her ‘Introduction to Knitwear Design’ and ‘Pattern Writing for Knit Designers’ classes. An Indie Designer Spotlight with rotating trunk shows from Curious Handmade, Louise Zass-Bangham, Renee of East London Knit and Boo Knits.
All profits from The Great London Yarn Crawl are donated to Refuge. The 2014 event raised over £800 for the charity and in addition to monetary donations, attendees are once again invited to bring hand knit or crocheted accessories in a range of sizes from newborn to adult womens which will be donated to Refuge for distribution. I already have a stack of hats tucked away as part of my From Stash 2015 project and will be adding a few more, plus mittens, scarves and shawls before the event.
I really did enjoy myself last year, and hats off to Rachel and Allison for their exceptional organisational skills which ensured everyone was pretty much in the right place at the right time! Count me in for this year ladies!
Tickets for the yarn crawl routes, registration for Kate Atherley’s workshops and Pop-up Marketplace only tickets go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday 1st July at 10am which give you just enough time to browse the routes and pick your team. See you there?
