When I wrote and hit publish on the Fleeced post last week, I thought maybe there might be a few reactions to it –possibly a couple of comments, an email or two – but nothing prepared me for the incredible response I have received. There have comments here on the blog, emails from farmers, shepherds and smallholding owners, interest from the press, and global messages of support across social media.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and everyone of you for reading and for all the touching, interesting and thoughtful responses I have received. There has been more than one occasion where I have been moved to tears! It’s taking a while to work my way through and reply to all the messages, but I will respond to each of you individually so please bear with me.
The blog post seems to have struck a chord and it would be foolish of me not to build on this and see where I can take this project. Over the past week I have done a lot of thinking, there has been formulating and hatching of plans, and what started as a ‘let’s spin some fleece’ statement is fast becoming something much bigger. I have no idea where this will lead but would like you all to join me for the journey.
In between the usual knitty banter, I’ll be blogging regular updates about the project and please do continue to get in touch with any comments or links you think may be of interest – it’s been amazing hearing your stories, reading your comments and discovering projects previously unknown to me and I’d love to know more. You can leave a comment on the blog or use the contact form if you’d rather keep things confidential.
As for the next stage in the Fleeced project, well, as of Monday past I am now the owner of approximately 250 Hebridean fleeces and can start the spinning process. It’s incredibly exciting and utterly terrifying in equal measures, which I think always makes a good combination! I hope to be back with an update soon.
Once again, I send a heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.
