Depending on the clip itself, my ‘relationship’ with paperclips treads the line between love and hate.
I love big chunky paperclips, likewise the mini clips are too cute to not be loved, but those in-between sizes just don’t do it for me mainly because paperclips just don’t work very well! It seems to be, regardless of size, that you can actually only hold two sheets of paper together without them drifting apart and falling over the floor and out of their specific order, which kind of defeats the whole point of them. And how is it that they mysteriously make their way into the bottom of drawers, key dishes and pockets like some kind of stationery Houdini? Answers on a postcard please!
However, I do have a strange fascination with bulldog clips. It’s a hangover from childhood as my Dad always had them on his desk and I could never figure out how they worked. When someone finally demonstrated the flip-back and ‘clippy’ action to me I was amazed, and then discovered they come in a whole range of sizes, and once again the cute factor of the mini-clips is just too good to ignore. Bulldog clips will always win over paperclips in the ‘temporarily holding paper together’ stakes!
Of course, if neither of these options suits you, there is always this magnificent giant clip gifted to me by Belinda at True Brit Knits. Her love of stationery took her to the wondrous pencil, pen and paper emporium that is Present & Correct. If you love stationery, and are in London, do pop by their shop in Islington for a rummage, but if you can’t make it to the store there is a delightful online shop to explore as well.
Any alternative suggestions for the paperclip will be gratefully received!
