Is it even two minutes since I sat down to start writing posts for the 2014 Advent countdown and yet here we are in December 2015. I seem to be saying it all too often these days, but where does the time go? It has been touch and go as to whether or not the Advent blog would happen this year, but with the help of some fabulous guests who you will get to meet over the coming weeks, I’m thrilled to be publishing the first post thus signalling the start of what has now become my traditional Advent blog.
I dug my Advent calendar out of the cupboard yesterday where it has been sitting patiently waiting for it’s turn in the spotlight since September. The calendar was as always a gift from Mum, but following a visit to Buckingham Palace in late summer we have broken with tradition ever so slightly this year and gone for something slightly more ‘blingy’. I spotted this in the gift shop at the end of our tour and after reverting to being a child again with squeals of delight and a discussion about it not really being that traditional, I left with a big smile on my face and the calendar in a bag.
I think it’s magnificent!
The Palace looks spectacular and you can see Father Christmas has been to visit. The tree is suitably grand and guarded from all angles by the Corgis:
There are Scottish pipers piping whilst the Irish Guards and Beefeaters jig along in front of a lit-up palace gate:
Whilst the Lion and the Unicorn pass casually by in the state coach:
And there is door number 1:
I think it’s another Corgi but I’m open to suggestions!
I would love to hear about your Advent calendar and what you found behind door number 1 and look forward to sharing the next 24 days with you. It’s hard to believe December is here again isn’t it!
In other news, Mr K finally drew a winner for the Carol Feller book prize from his short row hat and I’m thrilled to announce the winner is Helen D who left the following comment: “I often feel that I would like my short rows to look neater. I think I need to try those Japanese short rows next. Thanks for a really helpful review of this book.” Congratulations Helen and I will be in touch to arrange delivery of your prize. Thank you to everyone who took time to enter and do keep an eye out over the coming weeks for more fabulous giveaways.
