When I was looking through pattern collections for the last minute makes post, one of the first to spring to mind were the Edward’s Menagerie books from TOFT and it is a pleasure to feature them on the blog today.
You might be familiar with TOFT Alpaca Shop and their beautiful yarn spun from the fleece of their own Alpaca flock right here in the UK. They have been at the forefront of British Alpaca production for a number of years and the business has gradually expanded to include British sourced and spun wool. All their yarns are a joy to work with – I have made several items from both their Alpaca and wool yarns – and with my ongoing Fleeced project it is inspiring to see British yarn companies flourishing.
Edwards’ Menagerie published in 2014 contains over 40 crochet projects, all designed by owner and founder of TOFT, Kerry Lord and they make perfect gifts for the young (and not so young) family and friends on your gift list.
Amongst the characterful creatures you will find Simon the Sheep:Boris the Red Squirrel:And seasonally appropriate, Angharad the Donkey:A second volume of Edward’s Menagerie followed in 2015 this time featuring Birds.
I selected a few seasonal favourites including Gilbert the Pheasant:
Robin the Robin:
And poor old Ross the Turkey – who’d want to be a turkey at this time of year?!
I am absolutely desperate to visit the TOFT farm – I’ve heard the cakes in their cafe are worth the journey alone! The bricks and mortar shop, based on the farm, is open for business Wednesday to Sunday and the next Open Day which includes the opportunity to walk Alpacas (!!!!!) is on Saturday 19th December. If you can’t get to the farm then you will find the Edward’s Menagerie books and kits available to order direct from the TOFT online shop and at many shows where you can spot the TOFT stand by simply looking for the menagerie!
TOFT have very generously offered three of my readers the chance to win a festive ‘Robin the Robin’ kit. All you have to do to enter is reply to this post telling me the name of your favourite character from the menagerie. Entries close at midnight GMT on Monday 14th December 2015 after which I will put all the names into Mr K’s TOFT hat for him to draw a winner at random. Good luck!
